To celebrate the success of the Read Write Inc programme, and further support schools to build on these positive results, Hilary Aitken (Literacy/Dyslexia Support Team) and Alastair McArthur (Multimedia officer) worked with schools and pupils to create a Read Write Inc training film. This was launched at the Filmhouse Cinema on Tuesday 26th April.
All teachers and children from the schools involved in making this film were invited to the premiere alongside Councillor Paul Godzik and City of Edinburgh Council staff. It was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The children were awed into silence on seeing themselves on the big screen and thoroughly enjoyed the tea party afterwards.
Read Write Inc is Edinburgh’s P3 to P5 literacy intervention programme for pupils with literacy difficulties. Read Write Inc uses phonics to help children to learn to read and write while developing a wide range of vocabulary. By participating in the programme, many pupils have been able to develop learning skills to access the full curriculum and have improved their reading confidence. For more info, see our Read Write Inc page.

Just a quick titbit for you to hopefully get you enthused about the new session. While we’ve been off, Crick have enabled school account OneDrive integration for their Clicker apps. There was a OneDrive option previously, but this was just for personal accounts and didn’t work for us. This new update means that it is now really easy for you to create resources using the Clicker desktop software and share it with the app. Hooray! However, you should be aware that you will be able to see if not open all the files in your OneDrive if you connect the Clicker apps to it so, as always, ensure that you manage your data responsibly.
Do let me know if you try this – I have tested it and it works like a charm. Hopefully we can build up a bank of great resources that we can share.
Best of luck for the new school year, everyone!
This morning I flexed my spacial awareness brain muscles as I figured out how to get a brand-spanking new SMART kapp® board into my Ford Fiesta. Thankfully, I managed it without breaking it, so I’m now able to tell you all about it.
The SMART kapp® board is an exciting new piece of kit that allows you to capture handwritten notes and send them to mobile devices, tablets, laptops or desktop computers in real-time. Learners can then save these notes as PDFs or images for perusal later. Continue reading “SMART kapp® board available to trial!”
